There are the ruins of the old church still to be seen in the middle of the graveyard. In this church they used to assemble for prayer. Nurney means oratory or place of prayer and this is how the district got its name.
- When a rainbow appears in the sky it is a sign of rain. When soot falls down the chimney it is a sign of rain. Spiders creep from their cobwebs. The clouds look black. Swallows fly low. Crows keep near houses. Sheep rise earlier than usual, flock close together and lie down again. The hills far away appear nigh. The ducks quack loud.
