- The ruins of the real old church of Skeirke are situated in the centre of the graveyard. Protestants and Catholics are buried in this graveyard. It is surrounded by a stone wall with big trees growing inside it. This church was a Catholic church. St Mola who was buried in Kyle founded it about one thousand years ago.
It is situated about one hundred yards at the Borris in Ossory side of the cross of Skeirke. It is about the same distance away from the Moate. One gable end of it is all is to be seen at the present (at the present) day. It is all covered over with ivy. It is about twenty feet high. All the other walls were thrown down. Cromwell burned this church one Sunday just as the people were gone home from Mass. He gave them time to clear away, then he set fire to it. His soldiers were all lined up outside. When this church was destroyed there was a Protestant one built instead of it.
It remains there to the present day. It was built about ten yards below the Catholic church.
