- The people in olden times used oaten meal stirabout, yellowmeal stirabout, oaten bread, potatoes, butter and milk. The people used potatoes and stirabout for nearly every meal.
Workmen in the townland of Slatt were well able to mow an acre each, with scythes every day and their food for the day consisted of three meals of stirabout and milk. The vessels used to hold the milk were called "noggins". These vessels were made out of wood.
