of Derrynadoey, Derrynahinch, Curnamuckla and Derrynacoosan, was Captain Mac Ternan. He lived in Ennis in the County Clare, and he had a family of sons, who lived in Heapestown beyond the town of Boyle.
This man had an agent named "Woulfe" Flanagan of Drumdoe, County Sligo, for collecting the rent from the tenants. There were three generations of the Mac Ternan family who settled down, and were landlords over this district.
The people of this locality always say that Captain Mac Ternan was a decent man. He always used to give the people plenty of time to pay their rents. There was a man named Thomas Gillmartin of Curnamuckla who was very friendly with "Woulfe" Flanagan. Thomas used to go around from house to house warning the people of the coming of the agent for the rent. This used to give all the tenants a good chance of having the rent for him, when he would come.
