“One night my father Tim Carty was coming home from a fair.”

On night my father Tim Carty was coming home from a fair. He was on horseback. It was about 9 o'clock at night. As he was coming along by Hollybrook he saw a light on the northern part of Lough Arrow, and as he came on to Ballinafad village he saw a second light on the eastern part of Lough Arrow. A few minutes after he saw rays of light that lit up the whole lake, and he saw a tall girl in a white robe walking from the centre of the lake but towards the edge. She vanished then. That same night he saw a few other strange lights as he was coming along the road. That girl was seen one Sunday as the people came out from Mass in Ballinafad. She was seen walking on the shore of Lough Arrow by Tom Sharkey of Ballinafad and several others.
