- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)is the day on which people generally get married or before it, as they are not allowed to get married during Lent.
On the following day, which is Ash Wednesday, all the people go to Mass. The priest puts a cross with ashes on their foreheads, to remind them that they are destined to die. Everybody keeps that day a black fast.
The Saturday after Ash Wednesday is called "Chalk Saturday" and children go around chalking all the marriageable people and they also shake salt on them to preserve them to the next year.
On "Puss Sunday" the first Sunday in Lent everyone goes around the district pussing the people who did not get married before Lent and teasing them. Very often the girls get vexed with them and sometimes complain about them.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
