When the oats was all threshed it was put into bags. If the next day was breezy the bags were brought out on a hill top. A riddle was used and the oats was winnowed. The riddle separated the grain from the chaff. The wind blew the chaff into a heap by itself. The oats was brought into the mill and ground into oat-meal. On hot Summer days when the men were mowing the meadows, the oat meal was put into cold water and it made a cooling drink. It was used in making porridge and oat cakes. The chaff
