The day of the threshing was a great day in the townland There were three sheaves put down on the floor and one man stood on one side and another on the other side and both struck the oats alternately until all the grain was extracted. When the oats was all threshed it was put into bags. If the next day was breezy the bags were brought out on a hill top. A riddle was used and the oats was winnowed. The riddle separated the grain from the chaff. The wind blew the chaff into a heap by itself. The oats was brought into the mill and ground into oat-meal. On hot Summer days when the men were mowing the meadows, the oat meal was put into cold water and it made a cooling drink. It was used in making porridge and oat cakes.
