Toomonaghy means the district of the monks. The old people say that monks used to live there long ago.
Kiltobranks or "Coillte na bhFranncach" means the wood of the Frenchmen. According to local tradition the French soldiers passed through this district in 1798.
Aughalistia means the plain of the fort There is a fort in that district and i was surrounded by level land.
Castlemore means the big castle. There is a castle in that district.
Drimalasson means the back of the fort. There is an old fort nearby, the back of which is facing Drimalasson.
Kilcolman or "Cillcolman" means the church of Colman. St Colman built a church there.
Barnaboy means the yellow gap Barca or Bearna means gap while boy or "Duidhe" means yellow. Long ago when they were no roads there was a gap or lane in Barnaboy. This lane used to covered with yellow mud and that is how it got its name.
