- In olden times there lived near a fort in castlemore a family of pipers named Doherty. Everyone as delighted to listen to them play on their pipes. The neighbouring boys often got a loan of a barn for the a dance to which the pipers were invited to play.
One night the pipers were sitting round the fire very tired and lonely. A strange unknown man came in and asked them to play a tune on the pipes. As they did not feel like playing they refused. When he left they tried to play, and found they were unable. This disappointed them very much.
In years after the same man came in again. After a while he asked them to play. They took down the bag pipes to play, but they thought that as always they would be unable. To their surprise they found that they were able to play as well as ever. They were delighted when they were able to play to amuse the boys of the neighbourhood who came visiting to them in the night.
