- There are seven forges in the parish of Schull, one in Dunbeacon owned by Mr. Dan Hayes, and two in Schull. Mr. Con Mc Carthy owns one, and Mr. Patrick O' Driscoll owns the other. There is one is Coosheen, and three in Ballydehob. Mr Dan Driscoll owns the one Coosheen, and Mr. Pad Donovan, Mr Jack Driscoll and Mr. Jim Driscoll own the forges in Ballydehob. Their fathers and grandfathers were smiths. Mr. Jim Driscoll's forge and Mr. Pad Donovan's are on the side of the street and Mr. Dan Haye's on the roadside. Mr. Mc Carthy's is near a stream. Mr. Jack Driscoll's is on the side of the road, and Mr. Dan Driscoll's of Coosheen is also on the roadside. The doors are ordinary doors, and there is only one fireplace in each forge. The bellows are heart-shaped, and there are two pieces of wood, one on the bottom(continues on next page)
