- Cake used to be made out of oaten-meal in olden times and cake is made out of wheaten flour at the present day. There are mills in Ballydehob that grind the wheat called oneway but the white flour is ground in the Cork mills. In nearly every house long ago a small mill called a quern was used for making flour and that flour was called ríobún. Potatoe cake was made long ago. It was made out of boiled potatoes and stampie was made out of raw potatoes. They are still made. Long ago a little salt and bread soda were used in making cakes. Milk was used in making cakes and water with yeast in it for making bread. If there was a big family in a house cakes should be(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
