    the house would be searched very minutely. There was a lake about one hundred yards from his house towards which he went. After a minute examination of the house, the soldiers went out the backdoor and cast a powerful searchlight all over the countryside. Meanwhile Edward was standing waist deep in the lake. When the light would shine in that direction he would stoop down under the water and stand up again when it would pass away to some other direction. This continued for a quarter of an hour. Then the soldiers went away disappointed and Edward returned home. He had a slight cold which passed away in a few days and he was in perfect health again.
