When the moon is surrounded by a halo it is said to be a sign of rain. The nearer the halo the farther the rain is from us and the farther away the halo the nearer the rain. In the last quarter moon when the curved surface is faced downwards it is supposed to hold the rain and it is a sign of dry weather. The South-west wind is a sign of wet weather and East wind predicts hard dry weather. When the country people see the bases of pots and kettles covered with small sparks of fire, they say we will have rain. Rural people have distinguished signs in animals and insects by which they determine the future of weather conditions. When the mosqitoes are seen flying over the roads in Summer it is said to be a sign of rain. When a cat turns his hind-part to the fire it is said to be a sign of frosty weather. When a dog eats grass it is a sign of rain. When the curlews are seen flying over a river, and screeching, people say we are sure to have rain now.
