Playing marbles and pins was the great pastime in those days and was indulged in by persons up to 30 years of age. Girls as well as boys took part in playing pins An ordinary pin was placed in the hand and then the fist closed; the second player placed a pin in the others hand and called 'heads' If the heads of the two pins were together when the first player opened his hand then the second person won and took the two pins or he could have called out 'heads and points' and if the pins were in the position indicated he won. If the pins were not in the position called out he lost and forfeited his pin thus alternately the game proceeded. Persons used to take great delight in exhibiting the stakes (pins) they had won.
