    need not here be recalled. Much of the County of Cork had been proclaimed as "disturbed" and there were numerous outrages in various districts. In April 1789, the whole district of Muskerry was shocked by the murder in his own house of Mr. Robert Hutchinson of Codrum near Macroom. Late on the night of Friday, April 19th the house was broken into, and Mr Hutchinson was aroused by a servant man who informed him that robbers were in possession below. The man advised Mr Hutchinson not to go downstairs, and undertook to do so himself, after going up to the garret to arouse a fellow servant.Mr Hutchinson, however, insisted on confronting the robbers, and getting out of bed, proceeded downstairs, where he was heard to exclaim: "You rascal! what brings you here?"
