This dismantled church is an ancient landmark. It can be seen many miles out to sea. When the Great War broke out, the military authorities decided to blow it up, as it might possibly be of some assistance to enemy submarines. But, fortunately, they changed their minds and allowed it to remain. It is not in a good state of preservation, but the curious feature is that, notwithstanding its exposed position, the winter storms are powerless to damage it - a fine tribute to the labours of bygone days.
Petition for Erection.
A short history of this church may be of interest to some of the visitors to Crosshaven. The original petition for its erection was presented to Jemmit Browne, Bishop of Cork and Ross. He was translated from the bishoprit of Killaloe to that of Cork in 1745, became Archbishop of Tuam in(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
