The old town of Kinsale was itself rather poorly fortified; indeed, the old wall and a small rampart on the hill overhanging the town were the only means of defence since the small tower at the south of the town then known as the Queen's Fort, was of little strategic value. At the beautiful entrance to the harbour near the celebrated Old Head the Lords of Kinsale formerly had their residence.
Robert's Cove in History.
The pretty little seaside spot, Robert's Cover, when bathed in summer sunshine does not look at all like the scene of a most horrible tragedy of the sea. About 7 o'clock on the evening of 22nd December 1775, the inhabitants of the district were horrified to hear shrieks and moans coming from the shore.
