   One would never guess that, that is the beginning of her greatest war-song. The next line describes with a sudden change of metre appropriate to the action, and an effective onamatopoeia, the breaking loose of the hounds in the War on that peaceful scene. The felicity of these lines could not be reproduced in English. Their natural art appeals more than the elaborate word - weavings and artificial sentiments of the more learned Gaelic poets of the eighteen century.

   Or from the bubbling streamlet's grassy
