    have been built seven hundred years ago. The demesne which is in a high state of cultivation abounds with pleasant walks and the scenery is much enlivened by the river which glides along the foot of the plantations and castle and by which the demesne is bounded on the right.
    Macroom possesses a dispensary, and charity schools for the education of the poor. The church is about to be enlarged and repaired, and the Catholic Chapel is a large and respectable building with a loft tower. The town is covered by the resident magistrates. It has a goodly good weekly market on Saturday and fairs for castle etc. every month in the year. The population is estimated at 6,000.
