- Brogue-making.
"Brogue" making was once an important industry here. They were sown with thongs, and turned up in front.
They were disposed of locally, and used to be taken to other towns in large "kishes" or baskets. Hence the old saying "As ignorant as a 'kish' of brogues". - Shoemaking.
There were within easy memory upwards of a score of shoemaking establishments, which meant up to 50 workmen.
Now there are only four or five, and they spend less time making new boots or shoes than in "cobbling", which they find more profitable.- Faisnéiseoir
