- Folk Lore
Once upon a time there lived a gentleman in an old cottage in Ballindollaghan and he had an old cook. One day he told her to kill two of the best fowl she had for dinner so she did. When she had them cooked she went to the cellar and drank some beer. Then she came out and looked at the fowl and they were so nice that she tasted one of them; she said to herself that when she started it that she would finish it She took another drink of beer so when she came back she tasted to other one of the fowl and then she said to herself that she would finish it. Then the gentleman came with the visitors he went into the dining room first and started sharpening the carving knife. Then the old cook went to the door and told the visitors that he would cut the ears off them and not to come in so they went off running so when the man came from the dining room he asked where were they gone and the cook said they were gone with the two fowl so he ran out and followed them and he roaring only one only one and they thought it was only one ear he wanted but it was one of the fowl he wanted.- Bailitheoir
