Clonoghill there is a large stone about 4 cwt weight. It is said that the men of the locality used to have trials of strength as to who could lift the stone highest from the ground. One Sunday evening while the competition was going on a woman whose name is said to be Mrs. Kildea came on the scene. She remained looking at them for some time and then she began to jeer at them for being so weak. She finally took part in the competition herself and having beaten the men as to height she heaved the stone clean over a 6 ft wall. The stone is still pointed out. It now lies where it fell as the men despaired of ever being equal to emulating the feat of this amazon. There is hardly a man at present who can lift this stone even one inch off the ground.
