    are able to repair their own boots and shoes.
    This tradition has been in some families for the last 50 years. Im sure there are treble the number of shoe-makers now in the town of Athlone than there were some years ago.
    Some time ago the people would not wear shoes at such an early age as they do now or get so many either they were not able to afford it. The old people used to wear clogs. There was a shoemaker long ago in this district who used to make clogs with wooden and leather soles. I dont know of any one wearing clogs at the present time. Leather was never made in this district.
    I heard a man say that there was a tan-yard in Ballymahon and leather was made there.
