  1. (continued from previous page)
tried to keep the boy away from the poorer neighbours. However, when this boy attained the age of twenty-five years, another neighbour who was anxious to join the industrious farmer's son, and who had a large fortune to give his daughter made a match with the industrious farmer's son, and the industrious farmer went to bargain with the Priest three weeks before the marriage day.
Having his pocket full of money, he offered a large sum of money to the Priest and said that he would not let his son up and down with the poor people. The Priest said that it was against the rules of the Church to take this payment until after the marriage, so the man went home.
He and his son went on to draw sand for walks around the house. The son remained in the pit taking out the sand while the farmer went home with a cart-load of sand. When the farmer returned, he found that the pit had caved in and his son was dead beneath.
