- The Leprachaún - that funny fairy man - is well known in almost every country district in Ireland. He is described by those who profess to have seen him as a tiny wizened man of very small stature mending endless pairs of shoes and now and then taking a sip from a jug of "mountain dew". He is reputed to have a large hoard of gold hidden away and the first thought of anyone fortunate enough to catch him is to try and extract from him information concerning the hiding place of this hoard. However they rarely if ever get it.
Mr. John Cotter once caught a Leprachaún by the neck of his jacket and the seat of his pants but both but both were left in his hands and the fairy fled to his bitter chagrin and disappointment. When you catch one of those tricksy creatures you must not take your eyes off him for a single instant or they instantly disappear, and the wily beings try every means in their power, and under every pretext to divert your gaze.
A gentleman according to a local tradition - went out one moonlight night and espying the little creature under a tree he stole up and secured him before he could wriggle away. Despite(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
