    again then. The boy refused to go back to the mermaid when he was twenty-one years old, and he decided to go and seek his fortune.
    On his way he met a crow, a tiger, and a greyhound, fighting over a dead carcass. When they saw him coming they asked him to divide it between them. He gave the eyes to the crow, the bones to the hound, and the flesh to the tiger. They were very pleased with the division, so they said they would reward him. The tiger gave him a strip of skin off his back and told him that when he put it around him he would be the strongest man in the world. The hound gave him a bone out of his breast, and told him that when he put it up to his breast, he would be the finest hound in the world. The crow gave him a feather and told him that when he put it up to his breast he would be the finest crow in the world.
