- The wild birds that frequent this district are the "cuckoo", the swallow, the corncrake the waterhen the wild duck, the starling (which is known locally as the "stare") and the snipe.
Some birds migrate, others do not. The cuckoo, the swallow and the corncrake herald the summer. They leave us at the end of summer to pass the winter in the warm parts of Africa and Asia.
Soon after the woodcock, the wild goose, the plover and the starling which have spent the summer in northern countries over which ice and snow are now spreading come to us to spend the winter in our milder climate.
