- The bailiffs were sent to a farmer named John Hurley of Kilbarry to seize his cattle. He had paid his rent but it had not yet reached the landlord.
When the bailiffs arrived they were confronted by the farmers' daughter who fought them with sticks and kept their cattle until their father and two brothers arrived. They all fought the bailiffs with sticks and pikes. A bailiff struck one of the girls with a stick, which he had taken from her, and almost killed her.
A policeman had his revolver ready to shoot one of the sons but the other one stabbed him with a pike before he had time to do so. The sheriff at length told them to surrender.
