   Furge stumps or "speanoch" as it was called was the chief firing but they had coal and turf also.

   The houses were never white - washed except when the owners were having the Stations.

   I was told that a horse was seen feeding and sleeping in the kitchen of one of those small houses.

   I was also told that the old lodge which was situated at the gate of Kilmalooda House was one of those old fashioned houses, and the fire, was on the ground in the middle of the kitchen.

   There was only one door in each house but outside of this they had a small door which was called the 'half hatch'. These half doors are seen in some houses at present.

   The home made candles which the people used were called "half-penny dips".
