It derived its power from a mill stream, which obtained its supply from the stream which flows along the valley in which the mill was situated.
Corn and wheat were ground here, as well as carding wool. During the famine years, the local people received their supplies of Indian Corn there, and it is said to have tasted strongly of "soap". Mrs OConnell of Ballymurphy, lately deceased, remembered taking wool there to be carded when she was a little girl. This lady died about three years ago, at an age bordering on eighty.
    The Muillteóirí.
The Murphy family who lived in Ballymurphy, where Mr. Cornelius OCallaghan now lives, were known as "the millhores", and had a grinding mill some where on the river (Owenabue) which flows near their house. This mill was probably situated at the back entrance to Mr. Dan. Delany's residence.
