It is said that this stone was on top of a hill at the other side of the road in the townland of Cloghane at one time. But a gentleman by name of Mr Applebe who was then the owner of Kildarra house wished to ornament his lawn with this stone and he sent for a giant named Seamas Mór who then resided near that place and he promised him a roast bullock if he would move the stone from the top of the place, hill to the centre of his lawn. It is said that this powerful man rolled the stone unaided from its orignal position on to the road underneath which bound the lawn. As the remainder of his journey was up hill he laboured all the following day but failed to get the stone off the road, although when night fell he was extremely tired. He prepared to make one more effort to secure his prize. His mother and his brother lived in a place called Kilgobbin.
