  1. In olden times there were no qualified doctors, only men who were supposed to be able to cure different diseases by medicine made from herbs.
    They were called quacks.
    Some of the remedies practised by these so called doctors are as follows.
    SORE EYES, for sore eyes a person rubbed this spittle to the eyes for nine mornings or bathed them in cold tea.
    WARTS. A person suffering from warts filled a bag with as many stones as they had warts placed it on the road and the first person that picked up the bag would take the warts.
    For A PAIN IN THE SIDE a hot poultice of potatoes is applied.
    WHOOPING-COUGH. If a child had the whooping -cough and she drank the milk left after a ferret.
    CARRIGIN MOSS, is a weed that grows along the sea-coast or rocks it is very healthy and is supposed to cure a weak chest and colds.
    EAR-ACHE is cured by putting
