Callaghan asked Murphy for the loan of the mare and riding to Killarney he put his hand under his dead brother's head, lifted it off the spike and placed it under his arm. While doing so he was fired at and closely pursued by the best cavalry in Killarney. He brought the head the whole distance and buried it with the body which he had previously buried n the present "Old Cemetry of Kilcorney. Callaghan lived an old man an escaped capture.
