I.
In Peake resided a lady of credit and renown.
She is honoured in her parish and the country all around.
Most nobly she acted when coercion laws began.
For the prison of old Ireland held many an innocent man.
II.
For this lady worked a young man, he was a widow's son.
He always felt quite happy when his daily work was done.
His heart was true and honest, his spirit light and gay.
'Till treachery awaited him and banished him away.
III.
'Twas in the month of April in 1866.
Those bobbies came well armed with their guns and bayonets fixed.
They did surround the widow's son before he could escape.
They swore he was a fenian, he wore green in his cape.
IV.
At three again stations there came a stranger bore.
Prowling round the lady's house to annoy her more.
At this time they wanted nothing for they knew that previously.
Other members of their forces had him in custody.
V.
Two other young men taken at midnight's silent gloom.
Escorted by those bobbies, Cork prison was their doom.
