There is an old story told in this district about St Lateran and a blacksmith in Cullen ( a village about ten miles away) where both lived.Every morning the holy woman used to go barefoot to the forge for the kindling of her fire in her apron. One morning the smith made a complimentary remark about her feet which caused her to commit the sin of pride. Immediately her apron took fire, and filled with remorse for her sin the St put a curse on the forge and prophesied that never again would the sound of an anvil be heard in Cullen.
