Poets may sing in fluent words of valley, hill and lake
Though I no bardic gift possess the best attempt I'll make
To describe some miles of a glossy stream than scours a lovely vale
Yet never met much fairer yet 'tis called the bright O'Kale.

Its source is in a wilderness of mountain it is true
But after one half is passed how pleasant is the view
Through deep defiles it takes its course with a low incessant wail
As if it sprung from some fairy tongue that haunts the bright O'Kale.

But its course is not alone confined to these raveens so wild
For through some lovely verdant plains a deep bed it has filed
