The horses are clipped usually in November. My father gives them only half a clip. - The hens, ducks, and geese are put on the eggs to hatch in the Spring time. Thirteen eggs are picked for hatching, and they should not be washed before being put under the hen.
The nest is made by putting a handful of hay or straw into a small box. The eggs are placed in the centre and the hen over them. The hen turns the eggs herself. She remains on the eggs all the time, except for a few minutes to eat.
Hen eggs are hatched after three weeks, when the young ones come out. The chickens are fed with crumbs of bread for the first week or two. Duck eggs, geese eggs, and turkey eggs take a month to hatch.
The fowl should be put to hatch in a quiet place, for much noise, such as slamming of doors, kills the birds in the shells. March is supposed to be the best time of the year(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
