- I often heard my father say, that there were many stories told about hidden treasure. One story he told me was about Mr O' Connor's fort at Paal, about one mile to the west of Kanturk.
He told me that there was a secret passage into it; and that there was a pot of gold hidden there. I do not know that anyone has made an attempt to unearth it.
I suppose the treasure would be worth about a thousand pounds now. There has not been anyone in the district in which I live known to have found any hidden treasure. It is said, that long ago the Danes used to store away many valuable things, and hide them in caves, or some place near the sea. My father told me, that where the fort was, there was to be seen a light, and that the people were afraid of it.- Bailitheoir
