- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)in the morning after leaving the bed. When the meals were being served the table was pulled out in the middle of the floor, and a fine canvas bag spread over it. The potatoes were strewn over this and everybody eat around to enjoy a good meal with potatoes and Buttermilk or potatoes gravy and milk as the case may be. On Fridays they used salted herrings where they could be procured. Meat was seldom used except by the well-to-do farmers who killed their own Bacon. They went to bed early and got up early. At Christmas and Easter they feasted and had meat and eggs in abundance. Tea was unknown until about the year 1860.
