One the slopes of the hill beside this cave sheep graze all through the year. One day an English soldier was takng an Irish prisoner before his officer. As he was passing along he caught a sheep which he meant to kill and eat.
Just as he laid hands on the sheep a hound of huge size rushed from the cave and attacked the soldier. A terrible fight ensued. The hound killed the soldier and then disappeared immeditately. The prisoner, John Barrett, witnessed the fight and left the place when it was over. - In Michael Mahony's farm Shronebeha, Banteer, there was a round Fort. This Fort was levelled out by Daniel Dineer who owned that farm at one time. Dineen sold the farm to a John O'Callaghan who had a Public House and Grocery Store in Banteer Village. He was one of the O'Callaghans of "Banteer House."
