    Meanwhile Bridget was in a terrible rage because of the favours showered on the lame girl Mary. So she poisoned a red rosy apple and dressed as an apple seller went to the place. The Queen was persuaded to buy the apple but she had scarcely placed a piece of it in her mouth than she fell in a swoon. This was Bridget's opportunity for the success of her plans. She threw her "apple-clothes" aside hastily and ran to help the Queen. Queen Mary was then raised to a chair while the doctors sought to revive her. Bridget told the king what happened though she did not tell him who the apple-seller was.
    When the Queen recovered and the poison was extracted from her mouth, she knew that Bridget was the apple-seller
