- 119A Hurling MatchIn 1883 a great hurling match was played between the parishes of Dromina and Freemount. The hurleys at that time were quite different from those in use now. Each man had a stick with a turn at one end much like a hockey stick, but not so well shaped or finished. These hurleys were made from bent whitethorn or blackthorn sticks; sometimes furze roots were used with equal effect.Long before the event came off, opinion varied as to which side would win. Both sides practised every Sunday, and when the all important day was drawing near, the Freemount boys were confident of victory.Young and old from both(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
