- The Pig's Cheek Field
There is a field owned by Mr Quain in Ballydeigue named "The Pig's Cheek Field".
It is so called because it has the shape of a pig's cheek.
There is gold hidden in a corner of it.
Long ago a man named OMahony dreamt three nights running that there was gold in the field.
One night he got two neighbours to go to the field to search for it with him.
They were to keep it a secret and to meet at the gate at half past one.
He armed them with pickaxes, shovels, spades, a black handled knife, holy water, and a cock.
In the meantime a relation of OMahony's named Miss Mulcahy heard about it.
She went to the field and was there before the men.
She told them she came to take home the cock.
They agreed that when they found the gold they would divide it between them evenly.
They started digging.
All went well till they came to something hard.
Then the cock crowed, and a bull bellowed fiercely and with chains rattling appeared.
They made three circles around the place with holy water but it did no good, so they took out the black handled knife which was supposed to possess some quality to drive(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
