- Long ago all the old houses were thatched. It was bags they had for roofs and the bed was in the kitchen and was near the fire and was called a seat by day and a bed by night. The fire was in a corner and the front of the chimney was made of mortar. Some of the old houses had no chimneys only holes made in the wall. There was no glass in the windows but there was celinite instead.
In the old houses long ago it was mud floors the people had. There are half doors in every house yet. What the people used for the fire was 'bortane'. The lights they used were dips or rish lights. People always made candles with melted tallow. They had an iron the shape of a candle with(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
