Long ago turf was used for the fire. No turf was found in the district. All of it was got in Glenanaar, Doneraile, Co Cork. Nowadays plenty of coal is used. In formers times local butchers made tallow candles through which a wick steeped in parrafin oil was drawn. Very small windows were in these houses. These were closed with a rough board with holes in the centre. The old floors were made of mud and some of these mud floors are still to be seen. Half doors are very common- Collector
