1. Folklore - A Local Song

   “Did you ever hear tell of the long bottom meat ¶ It looks so oily when put on the plate”

   The following verses were composed by a family of the Carneys on the introduction of American meat, into this country. They lived in Foxhall which is situated about one hundred yards from Glenahulla school. "Long bottom" was the name given to American meat at the time.

   Did you ever hear tell of the long bottom meat.
   It looks so oily when put on the place.
   I told the ould woman to cut it straight,
   In the moment I did she fell carving.

   It went very well till it came to the bone,
   O Den, says she, I must throw it away.
   O Mother dear mother, O give it a chance,
   It will do for a fry in the morning.
