The old Irish people say that the Banshee is really there. They say she is heard after midnight and is said to follow some families such as O'Keeffes O'Briens also those with Mac before their names such as McSweeney. When any member of these families die she is supposed to be heard crying after them they call it caoining. Sometimes the cry is low, other times it rises to a terrifying screech. My Aunt told me that a man named John Barry of Glanworth once saw the Banshee she was sitting on a large stone in a field near Glanworth she was dressed in black and her hair was a bright golden colour and she had a sorrowful expression on her face. A man named Jack Uniack who lives near us one night heard the Banshee(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
