- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)to see what the thing was. His eyes glinted covetously as his gaze rested on a beautiful silver horse which was standing under the trees. The horseman dismounted, and leaving his own beast untethered in the excitement, he crept up and captured the Silver Horse. He mounted his new steed and after getting his own horse, he went home and put it into the stable.
Every day he went riding on the Silver Horse, which was very sure-footed and fleet, around the district of Fermoy. One day he went off as usual on his magnificent steed and, as he was riding by the river Blackwater, he espied a hound struggling in the river. He immediately rode into the water and, as he did, the Silver Horse turned into a fish from whose back he rescued the hound. As soon as they landed on dry ground the hound turned into a prince and the Silver Horse returned to his former shape. The prince told his rescuer that he was a prince of the Barrymores and he described to the horseman how he came to be in such a queer place.
