- I have heard locally that eighty-two and ninety years ago a great snowstorm occured around this locality. It was from forty to fifty feet high, which was covering some of the houses and nearly level with others, so that any person looking from some height he would only see the snow, covering all the ground, just the same as a white carpet, no ditches or hedges or anything at all to be see. All traffic on the roads and also on the railway line was stopped on account of the snow blocking the roads and also blocking the railway line. The people also were unable to get out of their houses on account of the snow blocking the doorway. After the snow falling on the ground, it freezed, which made it a lot harder for people to make their way through the snow. Animals and birds too, were in a wretched condition, because they could not get food or drink on account of the snow and frost on the ground. Children were unable to go to school on account of this great snow-storm, which lasted for a couple of months.
