There was a hedge school in Ballintubber Carrigtwohill Co Cork at a four cross road where Mr. Mc Carthy is presently living. This school was out door in the Summer and in door in the Winter. Mr. Crowley was teaching in it. He was a local man. The teacher used to go home every night. He used to teach Irish and he liked teaching it as it was chiefly spoken by master and pupil. The writing was done on slates with slate pencil. They had a small thatched house and they used sit on the ground in the winter and along the ditch on fine days. The teacher must be there along time. He had a house at the bottom of Mr. Mc Carthy's haggard where the ruins are still to be seen.- Bailitheoir
